Review Philosophy & Working With Brands
I run an independent review platform focused on real-world cycling gear and components. The site is built around long-term trust with readers and a practical, experience-based approach to testing and recommendations.
I regularly collaborate with brands whose products I find genuinely interesting—and whose teams value thoughtful, independent coverage over short-term hype. This page explains how I work, what I aim to deliver, and how collaborations typically unfold.
Independence, Transparency & Product Access
As an independent, solo publisher, I do accept products from brands for review.
That said, editorial independence is always non-negotiable.
When a product is provided:
- There is no obligation to publish
- There is no expectation of a positive outcome
- There is no brand involvement in conclusions or editorial decisions
What brands can expect is a serious, good-faith review created in the same style and depth as the content already published on the site.
If a product arrives with a defect that prevents a fair evaluation, I’ll contact the brand and pause the process rather than publish something misleading. This hasn’t happened so far, but clarity matters.
Editorial Process & Trust
I don’t share content for approval prior to publication.
This isn’t about control—it’s about trust and efficiency. Brands who collaborate with me do so knowing that the review will be fair, contextual, and grounded in actual use. If a product performs well, that will come through naturally. If it has limitations, those will be explained constructively and honestly.
How Products Are Tested
There’s no single template for testing gear properly.
Some products benefit from extended use and complete builds; others can be meaningfully evaluated through focused testing, specifications, and early ride impressions. Both approaches are valid when communicated clearly.
In practice:
- Much of a product’s performance becomes apparent quickly
- Long-term durability and aging take time and are treated accordingly
- Short-term impressions are published when they offer genuine value to readers
I’m transparent about what has been tested, for how long, and under what conditions.
Evaluation, Comparisons & Verdicts
Each review includes:
- A concise verdict
- Clear pros and cons
- A star rating out of five, including half stars
Some comparisons are explicit; others are informed by long-term experience with similar products. My focus is not on declaring universal winners, but on explaining context—who a product is likely to suit, and where it may fall short for certain riders.
I’m open to reviewing products across the full spectrum, from premium to budget, established to experimental.
Monetization & Disclosure
Affiliate links help support the site, but they do not influence what I choose to review or how I evaluate products.
My guiding principle is simple:
I approach every review as if I were the buyer.
That means I sometimes cover products purely out of interest, even when they’re unlikely to be strong affiliate performers. In some cases, I may also link to products I wouldn’t personally choose, for the sake of completeness or transparency.
Responsibility to Readers
My role is to provide clear, honest analysis—not to dictate purchasing decisions.
Readers are encouraged to do their own research, consider multiple viewpoints, and decide what works for them. If the most honest conclusion is that a product isn’t worth buying—or that buying nothing makes more sense—I’m comfortable saying so.
Updates, Longevity & Follow-Ups
Reviews aren’t treated as static.
When products age, fail, or meaningfully evolve, I update reviews where appropriate. If my perspective changes significantly over time, I’ll reflect that—either through revisions or follow-up content, depending on the context and relevance.
As a one-person operation, time is limited, but accuracy and clarity always come first.
An Open Invitation
If this approach aligns with how you think about product development and long-term brand credibility, I’m open to collaborations that respect these principles.
I’m particularly interested in products that:
- Solve real problems for riders
- Offer thoughtful design or engineering
- Prioritize durability and real-world usability
If you believe your product stands on its own merits, I’d be happy to discuss a potential collaboration.
